Fiona Howell - Soprano
Soprano Fiona Howell, from Surrey, passed her A levels at Chetham's School of Music before gaining an entry scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music BMus course. Having graduated in June 2010 she is continuing her studies under Glenville Hargreaves and Iain Ledingham.
Recent operatic performances include opera scenes at the Royal Academy of Music and in Italy, in which she has played Fidelio in Beethoven's Fidelio, La Grande Pretesse in Rameau's Hippolyte, Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Margerita in Boito's Mefistofele, Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and Tisbe in Rossinini's La Cenerentola, she has also played the role of Iris in Handel's Semele.
Other recent highlights include performances in Haydn's Creation and Nelson Mass, Beethoven's Mass in C, Handel's Messiah and Laudate Peuri, Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate, Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat, and Faure's Requiem. She was also the soloist for The Central Band of The Royal Air Force at the Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Concert held at Chartwell, Kent.
In addition to her solo work, Fiona has sung with a number of choirs over the years including the BBC Symphony chorus. She has a particular interest in early choral music and since January 2009 has been a member of the Royal Academy of Music Bach Choir in the highly successful Bach Cantata Series of monthly concerts, being presented in conjunction with the Kohn Foundation.
Fiona particularly enjoys early music and enjoys the challenge of coloratura repertoire and in 2011 she won the prestigious Dame Eva Turner award for potential dramatic soprano.
